Amazon is hiring for a VAT Manager, based in London, to focus on supporting our Digital and Devices business lines in a VAT advisory role. The successful candidate will engage and partner with the Digital and Devices business teams to support current and future offerings across EMEA regions, including expansions, restructurings, ESS obligations for cross-border supplies of digital services, operating guidelines, and day-to-day questions.
The candidate must be comfortable directly liaising with various business teams within the company, with an aim of gaining a deep understanding of the business vision and model in order to develop clear tax solutions in support of the business, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions, and drive the implementation of the tax requirements.
Key job responsibilities
The ideal candidate will focus on indirect tax matters but will also have a base knowledge of direct tax and transfer pricing issues and how these can impact the business solution being articulated. The candidate will also work with other members of the global tax department to formulate and drive wider VAT/ indirect tax strategy, communicate current and future business plans, obtain cross-functional tax subject matter input, and ensure coordination of cross-functional tax solutions.
A day in the life
This position is not directly involved in day-to-day VAT compliance but is responsible for delivering the advisory planning, real time coordination, and communication of various tax-related projects across EMEA regions, including supporting engagements and negotiations with external advisors, government bodies, tax authorities, and auditors.

The Digital and Devices tax team supports and partners with Amazon business lines including Alexa, Audible, Kindle, Amazon Games, Amazon Music, Prime Video, Amazon Studios, FireTV, Amazon Prime, Amazon Devices (Echo, Kindle, Ring), and Twitch. We also support Project Kuiper to launch low-earth satellite broadband to unserved and underserved customers around the world!
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Minimum 5 years of relevant tax experience (e.g., Big 4 Accounting Firm, Law Firm or in-house tax experience), or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Fluent English language.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Recognised professional tax qualification, chartered accountant or relevant law degree
- International VAT experience in both practice and industry (including domestic and cross-border supplies of both B2C and B2B, goods and services)
- Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects, is organized, possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and is able to deliver on tight deadlines
- Highly motivated, hard-working, and able to work in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment
- Able to clearly and concisely interface with all levels of management
- Able to analyze and review statutes, regulations, and case law and then extract data and make sound recommendations
- Effective interpersonal skills, including persuasive written and oral communication skills
